The Standards Council of Canada has posted a notice of intent from CSA Group for a new edition of CSA B137.10, the standard for crosslinked polyethylene / aluminium / crosslinked polyethylene composite pressure pipe and its fittings. The public comment window ran from 21 April to 12 May 2026.
The scope continues to cover pipe rated at 1380 kPa at 23 °C and/or 860 kPa at 82 °C, for uses from potable water and radiant heating to compressed air. It again notes that the pressure rating of the pipe depends on the thickness of its aluminium layer.
Why the aluminium thickness matters
In a multilayer pipe the aluminium carries a large share of the hoop stress, particularly at high temperature, when the plastic layers soften. Two pipes with the same outside diameter and wall can therefore have different ratings if one has a thinner aluminium layer. Canada’s approach makes that explicit, and it is a useful check for any buyer comparing quotations: ask for the aluminium thickness, not only the OD and wall.
Products sold into Canada must be certified to the standard by an accredited body, and the certification mark appears on the pipe. A new edition usually brings a transition period during which both editions are accepted.
The SUSLiD view
Every SUSLiD model lists its aluminium thickness, from 0.20 mm at 16 mm to 0.70 mm at 75 mm. For Canada, tell us the certification body you work with and we will align the marking with the final edition.
